SHINKA is drummer, Max Tucker and multi-instrumentalist, DJ Fitzgerald. They came together a couple years ago upon discovering they had similar tastes for weird and hard-to-categorize music. They soon realized that they were soul mates (or something like that) and began this project which serves as an outlet for them to explore the sounds they hear in their heads.

Tucker, a versatile drummer, has been leaning heavily towards jazz and experimental electronic music for some time. With this project, he is seeking to bridge the gap (as he sees it) between organic improvised music and modern production methods via Ableton. Fitzgerald, past frontman of many-a-band and fellow Ableton enthusiast, has the voice of an angel and production chops for days. He comes from more of a melodic, singer-songwritery sort of place. Their numerous influences converge in beautiful ways (to them anyways). The first song here, ‘don’t change’ is sprawling and ambitious. It features the talents of rapper, Malik Ameer Crumpler via Paris, and Portland based multi-instrumentalist, Machado Mijiga. The second song, ’you’re just the worst’ is more serene but no less otherworldly.
